Regular Visual Termite Inspections AS 3660.2 (Residential)

Inspection Overview

A termite inspection is a routine visual inspection and report conducted following the Australian Standard AS 3660.2:2017, Termite management in and around buildings and structures.

Regular inspections are essential for new and ongoing termite management and should not be spaced more than 12 months apart.

The Australian Standard recommends that termite inspections be conducted at least once yearly and more frequently—every 3 to 6 months—in high-risk areas.

Inspection reports are completed offsite, thoroughly reviewed, and emailed overnight.

We employ advanced non-invasive technologies, including FLIR thermal imaging cameras, Termatrac radar technology, and Tramex moisture meters, to identify potential issues that may not be visible to the naked eye.

A regular inspection is required before installing a chemical termite management system for termite management. After installation, mandatory inspections must be performed 28 days and 26 weeks post-installation.

These are comprehensive inspections, not simple checks, and are charged accordingly.

After the mandatory inspections, regular annual inspections are scheduled to maintain the warranty on the chemical termite management system, which has an 8-year life expectancy.

Warranty: No warranty is provided for regular visual termite inspections.

Discounts: We offer a 10% discount for Defence members and their families, APOD members, DVA cardholders, Seniors, and Pensioner cardholders.*

Disclaimer: This service is a regular visual termite inspection per the Australian Standard AS 3660. This is not a timber pest inspection per Australian Standard AS 4349.3. This is not an invasive or special-purpose inspection. This is not a pre-purchase building and pest inspection. We are not builders or building inspectors.

Termite Treatments

Rodent Control (Rats & Mice)

Treatment Overview:

We use APVMA-approved non-anticoagulant rodenticide placed in secured, tamper-resistant rodent or mouse stations. Our highly effective rodent bait contains Vitamin D and provides quicker control of rodent infestations with shorter baiting regimes and higher palatability. The bait we use is approved for use in poultry farms, piggeries, and along fence lines.

Treatment Areas:

The house perimeter, roof void, garage, sheds, and pools are target areas for rats. We place stations securely near hot water systems, outdoor air conditioning units, open sewer and stormwater drains, and downpipes. The roof void, garage, kitchen, laundry, hallway cupboards, bedroom wardrobes, furniture, drawers, and cabinets are target areas for mice. Please take a look at the important key facts about rodent treatments below.

Warranty:

We provide a one-month warranty conditional on the supply and installation of an adequate number of stations determined by the pest management technician undertaking the service.

Important Facts:

  • Time to Effect: Rats and mice typically die within 2 to 4 days of consuming the Vitamin D bait. However, being naturally neophobic (fearful of new objects and food), rats may avoid the bait for 5 to 7 days until they feel safe. Competing food sources like cat, dog, and bird food accessible to rats and mice may delay the baiting regime and prolong the infestation.
  • Stop-Feeding Mode of Action: Vitamin D-based rodenticides are designed to be single-feed, fatal-feed, with a stop-feed mode of action. Once consumed, this bait will be the rodent’s last meal. These baits are more efficient, eliminating more rodents with the same quantity as other baits. Vitamin D causes calcification of body tissues and organs, with death occurring from heart and renal failure, not internal bleeding like anticoagulants.
  • Pet Safety Risk: We believe that there is no such thing as a “pet-safe” rodent bait. Some baits have a lower risk profile but are still dangerous to pets should they ever gain direct access to them. The technician or user is responsible for following the Label instructions and applying the bait safely. If a safe application is impossible, we will not provide the service.
  • Secondary Poisoning Risk: Vitamin D non-anticoagulant rodent bait does not bioaccumulate in animals like anticoagulant baits. Studies have shown no signs of secondary poisoning.
  • Antidotes: Anticoagulant rodenticides pose a danger to pets and wildlife, with Vitamin K1 being the antidote for the Superwarfarin and Warfarin rodent baits. There is no antidote for Vitamin D rodenticides. Any pet or animal suspected of rodent bait poisoning should receive urgent veterinary attention.
  • Exclusion: We recommend physically proofing your property to prevent rodents from gaining entry. Consider installing gutter guards, top and side garage door seals, internal access garage door seals, and weep hole protector screens.

Paper Wasp and Bee Control

Key Information:

Wasp and Bee Repellence: Our treatment does not repel wasps or bees. It is a targeted search, find, and destroy process. They must come into contact with treated surfaces for the treatment to be effective.

Paper Wasps: Paper wasps choose nesting sites based on the availability of safe harbourage and proximity to food sources. Our treatment will not prevent future infestations. Nests located high in trees, over waterways, or on Council or Crown land cannot be treated by us. Yellow-brown paper wasps are mainly known for building large nests high on buildings and in trees, sometimes over 10 metres off the ground.

Mud Wasps: Mud wasps, including species of Mud Daubers or Potter Wasps, often build nests and cocoons on exterior walls, inside wall cavities, and in roof voids. While these wasps rarely sting, their large size and proximity to people can be alarming. Exterminating mud wasps involves directly spraying the insects. Mud nests can be safely removed when no wasps are present. Interestingly, mud wasps act as natural pest controllers by stinging and paralysing spiders to store in their nests.

Bees: Bee colonies are treated after dark, as bees cannot fly at night but can still crawl. Night treatments are conducted for the safety of both our technicians and the occupants. We strongly encourage contacting a local beekeeper to preserve and remove the colony whenever possible. If preservation is not feasible, we will proceed with exterminating the colony. Installing weep hole protector screens and sealing entry points can help prevent bees from entering brick wall cavities.

German Cockroach Control

Important Considerations

A single female German cockroach and her offspring can produce over 300,000 cockroaches in just one year. This rapid reproduction rate makes it crucial to address any infestation immediately to prevent it from becoming uncontrollable.

Warranty

No warranty is provided due to the high risk of reinfestation. The success of the treatment heavily depends on the occupants maintaining strict housekeeping, hygiene, and sanitation practices.

Discounts

No discounts are available due to the intensive nature of this treatment. This service is priced competitively based on the time, resources, and expertise required to control German cockroach infestations effectively.

Important Questions

When did you first start noticing German cockroaches?

Early detection is critical to successful treatment. Knowing the timeline helps us assess the severity of the infestation.

Do you see German cockroaches during the day?

Seeing cockroaches during the day often indicates a severe infestation, which may require more intensive treatment.

Is anyone in the household sick, allergic, or sensitive to insecticides?

This helps us ensure safety during treatment and adjust the service as needed.

Treatment Process

Pre-Treatment Cleaning:

  • Occupants must thoroughly vacuum and clean the home before our arrival.
  • All food preparation surfaces, cookware, kitchenware, tableware, glassware, and utensils should be meticulously cleaned before and after use. This step is critical for maximising treatment effectiveness.

Treatment Preparation:

  • We advise all occupants, including pets, to vacate the premises before the treatment begins and not return for at least four hours after completion.
  • Our team will secure the home upon finishing the treatment. For your convenience, payment is required before leaving the property.
  • We recommend refraining from mopping for two days following the service to maximise treatment efficacy.

Inspection:

  • Our experts will thoroughly inspect your property to determine the extent of the infestation and identify key harbour areas.

Insecticide Application:

  • We apply a non-repellent residual insecticide to skirting boards, cracks, and crevices.
  • The treatment is undetectable to cockroaches, ensuring they come into contact with the insecticide and spread it to the colony.

Insect Growth Regulator (IGR):

  • An IGR is included in the insecticide solution to disrupt the cockroaches’ life cycle, preventing nymphs from developing into reproductive adults.

Cockroach Bait:

  • Bait is strategically placed in high-activity areas.
  • The bait is consumed and shared among the colony, significantly reducing the population.

Non-Toxic Pheromone Traps:

  • We use pheromone traps to monitor the infestation and reduce the cockroach population.
  • These traps attract cockroaches to a non-toxic adhesive surface, lowering their numbers.

Hygiene and Sanitation:

  • We will provide detailed recommendations on maintaining proper hygiene and sanitation practices.
  • Effective German cockroach control depends heavily on these measures to prevent re-infestation.

Flea Control

Treatment Overview

Our flea control service is designed to address flea infestations at all stages of their life cycle. We provide a thorough and effective treatment process that includes internal and external applications to ensure comprehensive coverage.

Warranty:

No warranty is provided due to the high risk of re-infestation and the resilience of flea eggs and pupae.

Discounts:

No discounts for flea control services, as this treatment is costly and time-consuming.

Treatment Process

Internal Treatment:

  • We apply a residual insecticide combined with an insect growth regulator (IGR) to all accessible areas within your home, including carpets, rugs, skirting boards, and other potential flea harbourage sites.

  • The treatment targets adult fleas and disrupts the development of immature fleas, effectively breaking the flea life cycle.

External Treatment:

  • Our external treatment involves spraying your yard and accessible subfloor soil areas with a powerful insecticide.

  • The treatment provides a rapid knockdown of adult fleas and helps reduce environmental flea populations.

  • The external treatment remains fully effective for up to 30 days due to environmental factors such as UV light and weather conditions.

  • The cost is conditional on the size of the yard and subfloor.

Client Responsibilities:

For the treatment to be successful, occupants must take additional steps, including:

  • Treating pets with an APVMA-approved flea product.

  • Regularly vacuuming carpets and floor areas to remove flea eggs and pupae.

  • Washing personal and pet bedding in hot water.

  • Implementing other non-chemical Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies.

Important Considerations

Flea Biology:

  • Fleas are small, wingless insects known for their remarkable jumping ability.

  • The most common species affecting pets are the cat flea (Ctenocephalides felis) and the dog flea (Ctenocephalides canis).

  • Fleas are highly adaptable and can thrive in various environments, including your home, yard, and on your pets.

Challenges in Control:

  • Fleas are notoriously difficult to control due to their rapid reproductive cycle and the ability of pupae to remain dormant for extended periods.

  • Fleas undergo complete metamorphosis, which includes the egg, larval, pupal, and adult stages.

  • The eggs and pupae are remarkably resilient, making it challenging to eliminate an infestation.

Health Risks:

  • Fleas pose significant health risks to pets and humans. Flea bites can cause itching, irritation, and allergic reactions known as flea allergy dermatitis (FAD) in pets and people.

  • Additionally, fleas are vectors for various diseases and parasites, including tapeworms and bacterial infections such as Bartonella (cat scratch disease).

Red Imported Fire Ant Control

Treatment Overview:

Red Imported Fire Ants are an invasive species that pose significant risks to public health, the environment, and property. These aggressive ants can deliver painful stings, cause allergic reactions, and damage crops, lawns, and electrical equipment. Jets Pest Control offers professional fire ant treatment services to eliminate these invasive pests.

Treatment Plan

Initial Inspection: A thorough inspection of the property to identify fire ant nests and assess the extent of the infestation.

Treatment Method:

  • Direct Nest Injections: We perform direct nest injections using Fipronil following the APVMA permit (Permit Number: PER14770). This method ensures that the entire ant colony is effectively eliminated. We apply approximately 10 litres per nest.

Follow-Up Treatments:

  • Follow-up treatments may be necessary for nest eradication. A strict mixing and application rate must be followed to comply with legal requirements in Queensland.

Reporting and Compliance:

  • Jets Pest Control completes all mandatory reporting and record-keeping on behalf of the customer. This includes reporting to Biosecurity Queensland. A chemical application record will be emailed to the customer after the treatment.

Warranty:

  • No warranty is provided with Red Imported Fire Ant treatments due to the high risk of new infestations.

Discounts:

  • No discounts are provided with Red Imported Fire Ant treatments.

Key Benefits:

  • Effective and Targeted: Our Red Imported Fire Ant treatment targets and eliminates the entire ant colony through direct nest injections.
  • Safety and Compliance: We use Fipronil, a proven effective chemical, following APVMA guidelines, ensuring safety for people, pets, and the environment when applied correctly.
  • Experienced Technicians: Our team is highly trained and experienced in dealing with Red Imported Fire Ant infestations, ensuring effective and safe treatment.

Important Considerations

  • Reinfestation Risks: Red Imported Fire Ants can reinfest areas quickly. Regular monitoring and follow-up treatments may be necessary to maintain control.
  • Client Cooperation: To ensure the best results, clients should avoid disturbing treated areas and follow any additional recommendations provided by our technicians.
  • Regulatory Compliance: All treatments follow local and national regulations, including reporting to Biosecurity Queensland.

Timber Pest Inspections AS 4349.3 (Residential)

Inspection Overview

Pest inspections are “Timber” pest inspections conducted following Australian Standard AS 4349.3: Inspection of Buildings, Part 3: Timber Pest Inspections. They focus exclusively on timber pests and are not related to common household pests. These inspections must be carried out by a qualified and licensed timber pest inspector and are strictly visual.

Timber pest inspection reports are prepared offsite after the inspection, reviewed, and emailed to you overnight. We utilise advanced non-invasive tools, including a FLIR thermal imaging camera, Termatrac radar technology, and a Tramex moisture meter, to identify potential issues.

Building inspections refer to pre-purchase inspections of residential buildings under Australian Standard AS 4349.1: Inspection of Buildings, Part 1: Pre-Purchase Inspections – Residential Buildings. A qualified and licensed builder must perform these inspections. We are not builders, and claim no expertise in building, plumbing, or drainage, and only perform timber pest inspections. Our focus is on identifying evidence of termites, wood borers, fungal wood decay, damage by timber pests, termite treatments, or management systems, and conducive conditions for timber pests.

Important: As required by the Australian Standard, a Timber Pest Agreement must be signed before the inspection.

Please note the buyer or seller must organise a licensed builder to conduct the building inspection independently of us. We do not recommend anyone for this service.

Warranty: No warranty is provided with termite inspections.

Discounts: No discounts are available for timber pest inspections.
